An afternoon of family activities combining animal experiences, practical rural challenges and outdoor fun for the whole family.
Join us for a fun, outdoor family activity afternoon at The Ranch Coombe Valley Road Site, where families can enjoy a mix of animal interaction, hands-on rural activities and outdoor challenges together.
The afternoon is designed for children aged 4–14, plus siblings, accompanied by parent-carers. Activities will be flexible and adapted to suit different ages, confidence levels, weather conditions and the needs of the group on the day.
We’ll begin with a warm welcome and safety briefing before moving into an animal experience, where families can meet selected animals and learn about their care. After a snack break, we’ll enjoy a range of land-based outdoor challenges and practical games, finishing the afternoon with a calm reflection and goodbye.
If numbers are larger, families may be split into smaller groups to rotate between activities, helping create a calmer and more meaningful experience for everyone.
What to expect and things you might try:
2:00pm–2:20pm — Arrival, welcome and safety briefing
Families gather together while staff introduce the site, explain the plan for the afternoon and go through important safety information around animals, equipment, uneven ground and outdoor spaces.
2:20pm–3:20pm — Animal Meet and Greet / Animal Care Experience
Meet selected animals at The Ranch and learn about their care through safe, supported interaction and observation. Depending on the animals, weather and needs of the group, families may have opportunities to help with simple feeding or grooming tasks, while learning about animal body language and welfare.
3:20pm–3:45pm — Snack break
Please bring your own refreshments to suit your family’s dietary requirements.
3:45pm–4:45pm — Land-Based Outdoor Challenges
Take part in practical outdoor games and farm-inspired activities such as tyre rolling, welly wanging, bucket carry challenges, farm helper relays and nature hunts. Activities may be run as a whole group or as smaller activity stations depending on numbers and ages attending.
Weather and ground conditions permitting, there may also be an opportunity for a short goat walk. If conditions are unsuitable, an alternative sheltered or land-based activity will be offered instead.
4:45pm–5:00pm — Closing reflection and goodbye
We’ll gather together to share favourite moments from the afternoon, reflect on what we have enjoyed and learned, and finish the session calmly.
As this is an outdoor event, activities may change depending on the weather, ground conditions, animal welfare and the needs of the children attending. Whatever the weather, families can expect an enjoyable afternoon of outdoor learning, animal connection and active fun together.
We are offering three pricing options so families can choose the rate that best reflects their circumstances*. If you are able to choose the Supporter rate, you help another family attend an ASCape event at a reduced cost.
Parent-carers do not need a separate ticket.
All young people need to be registered to attend an ASCape event: https://ascape.uk.juice.software/registration
